1961 • McGlasson uses his 24’ wooden boat to create molds for a fiberglass Islander 24
1962 • Columbia Sailboats Company is formed using molds “borrowed” from the Islander 24 hull and deck
1962 • McGlasson begins production of the Islander 32
1963 • McGlasson Boat Company becomes Wayfarer Yacht Corporation
1965 • Islander Yachts Corporation evolves from older boat building companies
1965 • An Airstream Trailers artist designs the “Swoosh” logo
1968 • Islander Yachts is sold to Cosmodyne Inc. who forms Islander Yachts Inc. as a subsidiary
1971 • Cosmodyne sells Islander Yachts Inc. to Radlon Inc.
1974 • Bob Perry draws the design for Islander 28 sailboats
1975 • Production begins on Islander 28 sailboats
1976 • Sailors like the new model and the boat is a success in it's first full year
1977 • Sales are very good, best year ever
1978 • Sales slow significantly
1979 • Very few Islander 28s sold
1980 • No Islander 28s built
1981 • Bahama model debuts
1982 • Slow sales
1983 • The “Standard” model returns
1984 • Sales are brisk
1984 • Production moves from Irvine, CA to Costa Rica
1985 • US Federal government imposes 10% luxury tax on all new boats sold
1985 • Production concludes on Islander 28 sailboats – Approximately 415 total boats built
1986 • Islander Yacht Corporation goes out of business on May 28th 1986
1993 • Luxury tax on boats is rescinded
