About the Islander 28 Website. |
Introduction
The "Islander28" website is a non-commercial website established to aid fellow Islander 28 owners with the preservation of their unique sailing vessels. This website is not affiliated with any business, sailing or yacht club, government agency, or other organization involved with the sailing community. The site has been setup by a fellow owner named Wayne Eastman who sails on Lake Erie.
Purpose
After sailing various vessels during the past quarter century, a 1984 Islander 28 has come into my life. The beauty of her lines, the quality of her construction and her sailing abilities have completely consumed all of my liesure thoughts. I have searched the web and assembled much information on my computer. I would like to share that info with you, fellow Islander 28 owners and admirers. I would also like to add to my library of Islander 28 knowledge. That is where you come in. Look over what I have on this site, send me some more information and I will share it with the Islander 28 community ... that is the purpose of this site.

Islander 28 history and direction of this site
Very little Islander history is presently available online. It appears that records may not have been a priority at Islander Yachts and paperwork that was created is now missing. It would be nice if we, the Islander 28 community, had some history available to us. Production number for all of the years would be nice. Total units built would be great. Model change history would be of much interest.
If you have any details or tidbits concerning Islander 28s, no matter how small, please send them in to me so that I can share your infomation with the world. I have the 1983 advertising brochure and owner's manual but nothing else. If you have other materials about the Islander 28, I would appreciate it if you would scan those items in very high resolution (at least 300 ppi at full size) and send those materials to me. The bigger the scans, the better I like them! Thank you.

Who is Wayne Eastman
Wayne Eastman lives in Ohio and has been around the great lakes and boating his entire life. I have been sailing since 1978. Gloria and I began sailing with a SeaSnark, moved up to a Super Porpoise, then we sailed a Chrysler LS 16 for several years. After selling the Chrysler, we bought a Phantom and a BIC wind surfer. In 2003 a Catalina 27 entered our lives. The Catalina was replaced by the Islander 28 in early 2006. Our home is two blocks from Lake Erie and our Islander 28 is docked just 8.2 miles away from our home. I can hop in my car, drive down Lake Road for 15 minutes and be at the marina.
I grew up with an old wooden boat and the a Lyman in the 1950's and did not become aware of the joys of sailing until the late 1970's. Over the years I have had varied interests. Those have included cars, cameras, computers, church, family and boats. None of my interests ever seem to fade away. I still like cars, I drive a Mustang convertible and have an old Fiero GT in the garage. There is also an Explorer for hauling things back and forth to the marina. I own way too many cameras (mostly Nikons) but lately a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 has entered my life. I still can't believe that my "main" camera is not a Nikon. I have become a permanent speaker for food drives and children's sermons. My family is the only part of my life more important than our 5 1/2 boats (we share a SeaRay with my sister). Don't tell any of my sailing friends that I own part of a powerboat! Computers ... they are all over the house and more in the garage. I normally work on a PC but I started on a Mac, we still have several of those and I still think that they are superior to PCs. My kids ... two are Mac people and two are PC people. My wife likes her Mac. There is a Linux box (Fedora) in one room, and I could pull out some Commodores and Ataris if I wanted to. There are even more electronic devices at work as I am a computer graphics instructor at an adult education facility in Cleveland. The Islander ... oh the Islander, that boat puts a smile on my face whenever I think of her, and that is very often. If it's Winter and the Islander is in her cradle, there is still something that can be done to improve the Islander! I have several lists of things to do to the Islander in an Excel workbook. Right now the list extends through 2009! I plan to have the Islander in my life for a long time. I really love our boat!
